Product Description In 1996 writer-adventurer Mark Newman traveled to the Galapagos Islands. He stayed in the famed archipelago for longer than Charles Darwin had and visited more than twice as many of the islands. Here is his fascinating account of that journey, undertaken partly by Brigantine Schooner, partly by kayak, and partly on foot. There are animal encounters galore, a hike around the second largest caldera in the world, and plenty of entertaining anecdotes about the lesser known aspects of Darwin's 1835 visit. About the Author I'm a writer and photographer of natural history subjects, with my recent book, POLAR BEARS, released this past November by Henry Holt, having received recognition from the National Council of Teachers of English and the School Library Journal. I have another book currently under production with Holt and will be released in 2012. My work has appeared in both national and international publications for three decades. My photographs have been featured on the covers of such magazines as AUDUBON and NATIONAL WILDLIFE, and have been selected for SIERRA CLUB poster art prints and cards. Other photo credits include NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC and READER'S DIGEST books, NEWSWEEK, OXFORD SCIENTIFIC FILMS, LIFE and NATURAL HISTORY magazines, the NATIONAL PARK SERVICE, the U.S. FISH & WILDLIFE SERVICE, and in celandars too numerous to count.
