About First Responder Families: Caring For The Hidden

Product Description Stress and trauma are inherent in the public safety professions. When first responders are impacted by the negativity they encounter, their family members are often impacted as well. Yet somehow, the needs of families are often discounted or overlooked completely. "First Responder Families: Caring for the Hidden Heroes" was written to help families understand what to expect during turbulent times and to give them tools to mitigate stress and trauma. In this book, Dr. Tania Glenn writes not only as a clinician with over twenty-eight years of experience working with first responders, she also writes as a loved one of a public safety professional. Tying together the clinical knowledge and insight to create this book has been one of the most inspiring things she has done. Review "Although first responders are often hailed as heroes, the unsung heroes are undoubtedly the families. As rewarding as our profession is, it comes with a price both physically and mentally. Tania's book is a much-needed insight into what a first responder family needs to know about the ripple effect of having a loved one serving their community." - James and Becky Geering "This book is spot-on. As a law enforcement family, we underestimated the impact a trauma could have on the officer. We severely underestimated the impact it could have on family and loved ones. This book is a must-read for every first responder relationship and department." - David and Jennifer Mohr "One of the most overlooked parts of a first responder's career and the things they experience during their career is the effect on the family. First Responder Families: Caring for the Hidden Heroes is a great read. Using real-life stories and experiences, this book offers solutions, inspiration, and hope for first responder families. We have been a first responder family for thirty-four years. We survived, but we went through some very dark times just not knowing how to handle and cope with some of the issues that are specific to our family. This is a book we will be recommending to others." - Chris and Cheryl Fields About the Author Tania was three months from completing her Master's Degree at the University of Texas when she witnessed the dramatic and violent standoff between law enforcement and the Branch Davidian Cult in Waco, Texas. At that point, she knew her calling was to work with first responders and to focus on healing these warriors from the horrors of post-traumatic stress disorder. Tania spent the first ten years of her career working in a Level Two Trauma Emergency Department on weekend nights as she built her private practice during the week. In 2002, Tania transitioned to her private practice on a full-time basis and has dedicated her entire career to working with first responders and military members. Tania assisted with the aftermath of the Oklahoma City Murrah Federal Building bombing, the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Hurricane Katrina, the Dallas Police shootings, and numerous other incidents. Tania is referred to as the warrior healer by her colleagues, and she is passionate about her work. Tania resides in Central Texas. Her loves include her family, her pets, and fitness.
