EASY TO USE - most smiths drill a series of small holes as close together in the center of the work piece to be drifted. Once drilled heat the item and use a cold chisel or similar tool to split the piece. Then heat again and drive the drift through the hole. Tap the sides of the work piece while continuing to drive the drift into the work piece until the drift hole gets to the desired measurement. Several times heating are needed to get the desired shape
