About Levi Savage Jr. Journal

Read excerpts from his hand-written journal from 1852 - March 1903 and his eye witness acounts of many major events in Mormon history. He is best known for his efforts to delay the departure of the Willie Handcart Company, who was planning a 1200 mile overland trip in the fall of 1856 to Salt Lake City. Some of these events his journal covers are:1. Joined the Mormon Battalion 1846-18472. LDS mission to Siam (actually India and Burma) from 1852 - 18563. Joined the Willie handcart company in 1856 in Iowa City, Iowa to Salt Lake City, Utah4. LDS soldier in the Utah War 18585. Entered into plural marriage in 18686. Pioneer, farmer, settler of Lehi, Utah 1858-1865 and later in Toquerville, Utah 1865-19107. Served six months in the Utah Territory Penitentiary and for "unlawful cohabitation" (plural marriage) 1887-18888. Died in 1910 at the age of 90 years and buried in Toquerville, Utah
