This opaque, waxy, fine ingredient is a widely used dry lubricant, flow agent, emulsifier, and surfactant. Our Stearic Acid is the perfect functional excipient solution for manufacturing tablets and capsules. It is the most commonly used fatty acid boundary lubricant. It works by reducing dry powder mixes from sticking to metal contact parts on your tablet press, capsule filler, and industrial dry powder mixer. Due to its composition, stearic acid can also help with tablet binding, ensuring strong and durable tablet production. It is typically added at levels of approximately 2.5 wt.% but we have seen positive results of using up to 7% in formulas without any tablet capping. While this does depend on the formula, this high amount of lubrication is amazing for formulas including large amounts of sugars or other sticky products. Stearic acid also works as an emulsifier to thicken topical preparations like liquid soaps, creams, and ointments. Its thickening properties remove the watery feel from personal care products. In craft candle and bar soap making, it makes for a harder, more durable end product.
