This is high quality lodestone from Iron County Utah, USA. A lodestone is a naturally magnetic piece of the mineral magnetite. Only a small amount of all magnetite is naturally magnetized and considered lodestone. One theory is that the magnetism is caused when lightning strikes outcroppings of magnetite.
